Our story · Able Asphalt Inc.

Built on relationships
since February 1980.

For more than four decades Able Asphalt has earned repeat business the old-fashioned way: doing the job correctly, standing behind the work, and building relationships that last.

The chapters
1980The founding

One tank. One promise.

Able Asphalt began in February 1980 when founder Robert "Bob" Gillette purchased a used 500-gallon sealcoat tank from former Mesa Mayor Keno Hawker. Bob promised it would be paid off in 90 days, and paid it off in only 30. That determination became the foundation of the company.

BeforeWhere Bob came from

Wrestler. Asphalt man. Leader.

Before starting Able, Bob wrestled at Arizona State University and worked for Ford Asphalt in Phoenix, where he built a reputation for leadership, craftsmanship and hard work.

GrowthFour decades

From sealcoat to site development.

What began as a sealcoating business soon expanded into asphalt patching, grading, paving, concrete coordination, demolition and complete site development. Today Able is a full-service turnkey contractor, and Dirt Dudes, a division of Able, supplies the dirt, fill and ABC that go under it.

25 yrsSide by side

Continuing the legacy.

After working alongside Bob Gillette for approximately 25 years, Brian Booth stepped into ownership during a transition that was already underway. Today Brian and the Able Asphalt team carry the company forward with the same commitment to integrity, quality and long-term relationships.

In memory of Bob Gillette

Bob passed away unexpectedly in August 2023 following a brain stroke, leaving an enormous impact on Arizona's construction community.

Legends don't retire.
They leave standards.

Our responsibility is to live up to them every day.
